 Lab Slide - Mixed Media

My intent when developing a composition is to establish a harmonious rapport between disparate elements. My thought is that the nature of the creative impulse mimics the overall task of consciousness - it strives to resolve a collection of objects that have no overt, rational connection into a coherent gesture. In this vein, these pieces resulted from a decision to take elemental components (“scraps” if you will) of different types of work I had been doing and arrange them into balanced compositions that may or may not have a hint of narrative implication. What seemed to result were brief visual synopsis of physical and mental life; something of an aesthetic lab-slide conveying a visual transition from corporeal to symbolic to abstract. I characterize them as cursory surveys, with a hint of scientific organization and precision, of the spectrum of organic experience.
